Howard Perkins started trading in Coins and Banknotes in 1957. A year earlier as a collector and member of the Kiwi Pen Pals club at the age of 16 he made friends with an old oil millionaire from the USA who passed on his name with a recommendation to an Attorney at Law who was seeking large quantities of Australian coins for investment purposes. Among the items that Howard sought and sold to him was a total of 38 x 1930 pennies for prices ranging from 5 pounds ($10.00) to 60 Pounds ($120.00) not a bad investment, now that they bring at least $5,000.00 each. This man very kindly sent Howard many top quality Australian coins for his collection and he ultimately built up a collection of Australian silver coins that was regarded as one of the top 10 known collections at the time. This collection was ultimately stolen and as a result of this misfortune, Howard became a full time dealer.
Ultimately he registered a Company named Coin Buyers International that grew into one of the largest Coin and Banknote companies in Australia. The Company closed five of its shops due to a series of armed hold ups. Howard suffered some ill health and has been out of things for a time but is now getting back into full swing through the medium of the Web.
Howard is the Patron of the International Banknotes Society (Melbourne Chapter) and Honoury life member.
He regards himself as a world citizen and is a lover of world peace.
